[Spooky Month: Hollow Sorrows]

This is gonna sound pretty controversial but I don't think that this cartoon merits such a ridiculously high score consistently. I love it, and Sr Pelo, I support his independence and maintaining the rights to Spooky Month and coming out with a new episode annually. I feel it isn't the same thing anymore.

It started out as a slapstick comedy that was utterly laced to the gills with every frame of the animation having like 3 jokes in it and it had Sr Pelo's humor. The show then progressed slowly slowly taking itself more seriously like basically every show that starts out being a joke. That's mainly what I don't like. Maybe it's not for me. Not saying that the old style was objectively better even if it was definitely something I vibed with more.

It'd be a crime to rate this lower than 4.5 because I've seen a LOT of shit on Newgrounds and this is actually top tier quality in terms of blood, sweat and tears. I really didn't like the writing, how slow the episode was paced and some of the voice acting. It isn't slow paced just because the show started with a super fast pace of joke delivery in episode 1, it's just slow paced generally and the plot felt stretched. Maybe the production quality got raised but I don't think everyone else was looking forward to this level of complexity. Doesn't mean that because it has really smooth animation, audio quality and now it has an overarching plot that it means it's better. Could have had the same quality of slapstick comedy of screaming and split second jokes and people would still love it.

Yes I know this is a free video yada yada but that doesn't make it immune to critique. You don't want to be in an echo chamber of positive affirmation, trust me. Also, me critiquing the show isn't me necessarily saying I dislike it. I've been a fan for a while. If we all only throw praise and adoration to the things that we love without pointing out flaws and places where things can be improved, we're creating a circle jerk and we stagnate.

Also, big ups for getting Johnny Utah to voice the tankmen :)

This was actually a really decent concept for a game. I remember seeing skullkid on the front page when he died and I was wondering why. I remembered today out of the blue while scrolling through the game portal about this guy and I wanted to check out his profile for his stuff other than skull kid...

It's always really fucking depressing to see the unfinished projects of a person who passed away. R.I.P. Chance Banning, this would have been a cool game if you would have fleshed it out in the end. Hope wherever Chance is it's better than the world now in 2020 with the corona virus and stuff. Nice game :(

It's been a long time since I found a gem on newgrounds like this. I remember as a kid I loved it when playing games on the site opened up my perspective and showed me awesome content creators. I miss that cause I don't get that anymore. That personal feeling when I play a game and I'm in the zone, you know? Newgrounds really fell off these past few years...

Replaying Alice is Dead I found this awesome song in the club part and I experienced an old familiar feeling that I got when playing special games. It's sad cause this used to be a ubiquitous feeling in my childhood around the time I found the site and now I can count the times I feel these feelings on my fingers. It depresses me now that I found this song and this game because it's reminiscent of a healthier life and mindset I know is long gone.

Just wanted to give my 2 cents on this song and how it affected me on an emotional level. I feel it wouldn't be a review if I gave you just 7 words. It made me nostalgic though I never heard this before. Hope I can find another awesome and well done game with an equally awesome narrative whilst having an amazing soundtrack in the background from flash games that come out in the future though that's wishful thinking, you know?

Hania, your voice is enchanting. Thank you for making this song... It took me back and that really means a lot to me.

This was a really weird way to get introduced to a fanfic. I just went down the rabbit hole (no pun intender) after I looked for context online about this. It's actually a really decent comic series: it has decent writing and it doesn't suffer much from cringe, horny, shojun hackney writing. The only thing it had which made it controversial is the abortion topic. The thing is though, it handled the subject in a mature way, only it was just placed in a zootopia setting.

I've gone through the trouble and rifled through the trash that is the comment sections of deviantart, youtube, reddit, the zootopia fan site. What the general discourse can be summed up in is this:

- it's mainly people talking about abortion and relationships themselves rather than the comic or its story.
- There would be people going on tangents discussing the intricacies of the characters behavior in the movie vs how they're portrayed in the comic... how inconsistent their personalities are between the 2 (movie and comic).
- Another thing to note is that a lot of people were taking a dump on the writing STYLE, like for example the dialogue, the actions Judy was taking being overdramatic, Nick being too reactionary and blah blah blah, basically boiling down to character motivations making little sense.

My 2 cents on this is that the writing is good for the dialogue in specific when IT'S COMBINED with the emotional expressiveness of the characters' faces and body language. It's naturalistic which is a very hard quality to attain in either art but more so in writing, I love it. For example I found Judy to be excellently portrayed with how emotive she was physically, actually displaying her desperation for each written sentence. Maybe the overall story doesn't make sense but I didn't rate it as a professional story. It's a fanfic. Besides, it's a condensed mini story with no prequel or context. So it should be judged as a fanfic.

Last thing, I'm stunned that barely anyone in the comment sections who didn't like the comic itself for its themes, didn't comment about the art style or how strong it was. The characters' design were faithful to their original designs, but the skillful lighting, the backgrounds, the perspectives, the emotiveness in body language and facial expressions were what was so impressive. "I Will Survive" is a really good case study of how technical skill can be overlooked entirely if people don't like the story or the writing on a personal level.
